Volunteer Option
for library fines
Patrons with fines for overdue materials
may use the volunteer option to reduce their library fines. Patrons may
only reduce the fines on their own card. The maximum amount that can be
removed from a card through this method is $6.00 per calendar year. The
volunteer option cannot be used to pay for lost or damaged materials. Those
individuals volunteering in the library in lieu of library fines will have
$2.00 removed from their overdue balance for each hour that they volunteer.
Volunteer hours must be arranged in advance with the library director.
(Adopted May 3, 1989)
Lost Materials
Library patrons are responsible for the
replacement cost of any items lost or destroyed while checked out on their
library card. Materials are set to lost when they are 60 days overdue or
when they are reported lost by the library patron prior to 60 days overdue.
In addition to the replacement cost, a $2.00 processing charge will be
added to the total. All overdue charges on the item will be waived prior
to payment. If the item is returned after being set to lost, any money
paid for the lost item will be refunded to the patron with the exception
of the $2.00 processing charge. To receive a refund on a lost item, patrons
must return the item within six months of payment.
(Adopted April 4, 1994; Amended February
4, 1998)
Out-of-area library
card
Individuals who live outside of the CCRLS
service area will be charged an annual fee of $60.00 to receive a library
card. This card will entitle the user to all borrowing privileges granted
to Independence Public Library cardholders.
(Adopted September 7, 1994)
Interlibrary
Loan
Return postage will be collected from
the borrowing patron for all interlibrary loan materials that are received
through the mail or by other commercial carrier. There will be no charge
for items that are received through the library courier services for which
the library is not charged.
